Wednesday is the day. It's the center of the week but it's also been the center of our creative focus for 14 weeks. The culture of the class is the thing. No idea is out of bounds and no idea is safe from being pushed to its limits. My philosophy going into this semester was to strip away many of the constraints a typical college project might have. Much like the generative media we explored this semester the projects themselves were often very vague or gentle prompts into a direction and then we would wait that full week until Wednesday rolled around again to see what plants sprung from the seed.
Throughout this magazine you'll find fragments of ideas, creative avenues, nebulous references, and the artifacts of artists throwing darts in the dark. I do want to commend this intrepid group of students for piling into class every week with tablets and laptops spilling over with ideas and new directions. About 10 weeks into the semester the class broke into three groups to handle the landing. One group took over the organization of the magazine, another the creation of our collective capstone video and the last, to conceive of our end of semester exhibit. |
